The Joplin Public Library's Children's Department Chess Club had one of the best, if not the best turnouts last night with 17 players, some new to chess.

The Four States Winter Open ended a couple of hours ago. In the Open, David Luscomb and Ethan Stech each won their final games, to go undefeated at 3.5, drawing each other in round 2, and sharing 1st/2nd.In the U1400, David Reavis went undefeated to get clear 1st place with 3.5 points. Round 3 has started. In the Open, Havish Kunchanpalli is the only player with a perfect score, with the next two highest rated players, David Luscomb and Ethan Stech, half a point behind.In the U1400, Adam Whitaker and Tyler Weathersby are both at 2 points and are playing now to see if either can maintain their winning streak.
