What Books Would You Suggest?
I have been getting some chess books off and on over the past few months and thought I would ask a question about what books you think are the best books for an amateur level chess player to get. I have a few books, a couple with opening information, an endgame book, a couple of tactics books, a games collection, and some books on Paul Morphy. I already know at least one other opening book I want to pick up, maybe two. Other than that it’s kind of up in the air.
What would you suggest for books? While I welcome any suggestions, ones that pertain to general play I would think would be good to focus on. Books on specific openings I think are too focused, unless someone was particularly interested in such a specific opening. What do you think are the best books, aimed at the amateur player (sub 2000 rating), for the opening, tactics, strategy, endgame and game collections?
I look forward to some suggestions. Either comment on here or if you want to tell me in person, that would be fine too. I’ll get an e-mail address hooked up on the site too if you would rather send that way too (martin.stahl @ this site’s address so @joplinchess.org)
I received my first suggestion:
