I just stumbled back into chess and the SW Missouri chess scene in recent months. I’ve spent some time visiting with Allen Bishop from Neosho/Crowder who advises me that the Neosho chess club is non-existent since the city closed the rec. center, so that needs to be removed from the description above.
On the positive side, Crowder does have a chess group headed by Allen Bishop but that group is dynamic since students rotate through, and it is seasonal.
The Neosho Library has started a Friday afternoon chess function open to anyone wanting to play from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. Allen and I are both trying to help maintain interest and get the word out to schools in the area. There is no chess group at the Neosho High School that I know of.
I have updated the information above to reflect the changes and added the time/location at the Library.
Thank you for the information.
is the one in joplin still running?
Yes. We meet almost every Sunday from 2 until around 5 (though sometimes people will stay later to play). There are occasionally exceptions; for example holidays or a local two-day weekend tournament.
