We love chess and we love spring break! Join us for fun, low-key play in a recreational environment. No formal instruction provided. Program may run past 5:30 pm, depending on how the games are going at that time. Grades 6-12; no registration needed.Four States Winter Open on the news.

Chess players from around the region take their skills to Joplin for a tournament.The 9th Annual Four States Winter Open is a wrap. The event went down to the very end, with the top two boards in each section last to finish.
In the Open, Brian Rude got clear first, with an undefeated 3.5 points. Matthew Pratt also won his last game to take clear 2nd. The U1600 prize was shared between Chris Talbot and Morten Soerensen at 2.0 points.
The U1400 had shared 1st/2nd with Brendan Cirillo and James Stayton finishing undefeated, at 3.5, only drawing their first round game with each other.
This year's event had a little rough start, but but we managed to start on time and a lot of tough games were played. Thanks to all the players that joined us for a day of chess and a special thanks to everyone that assisted with the room setup.
Next year will be 10 years for the event, so if you have any ideas or suggestions, let us know.
4th and final round started. Round 3 saw the top two boards in the Open finish with draws, leaving no perfect scores, with three players at.2.5.
The U1400 has Matthew Beers at 3.0 and two players on his heels at 2.5.

In the Open, 3 players have perfect 2.0 scores: NM Bob Holliman, Oscar Wang, and Brian Rude. In the U1400, 2 players are at 2.0: Matthew Beers and William Tropepe.
