can kids participate? I have a 10 year old son who loves to play and was interested in getting involved in tournaments.
Yes, any age is welcome to play in our tournaments. The requirements are listed in the details; current USCF membership (through the tournament date) and membership in the Missouri Chess Association (http://www.mochess.org, which can be paid on site)
Also, notation in tournaments is required (for the most part), so knowing chess notation is very helpful. There are some other rules, that you should know. Wikipedia has a brief breakdown of the most important ones. Start with that link, read the competition rules, the section on Irregularities and Conduct.
He is also welcome to come join us (and you are too) on Sunday afternoons (2-5 at Hardee’s on W 7th) if there are any questions or just to play.
