When clubs play consisting of planning efforts in marketing, they increase attendance at tournaments. Perhaps when area clubs become knowledgeable and competent in marketing we will see increased attendance. I notice PC chess club does workshops not tournaments, yet have not noticed any posting of it before 26-5-09. The club seems to be training oriented. Classes, lectures via chessbase and online and video, along with training drills using stopwatches and software, and database workshops; all are focused on aquiring skill sets and/or a base to build on. The club offers a way for people to increase strength/ratings, by having the knowledge to deal with situations on the board.

Again, I have edited the above comment for containing a lot of information not pertaining to the intent of the posting about the Memorial Day Open results.

Now a couple of things in regards to what you commented on.

First, I didn’t get the best advertising out on the event and that, added with the way the economy is (fewer players have money to spend on USCF memberships and tournaments) has kept attendance down. I plan on doing better advertisements for future tournaments. Even with advertisements, such as that done by the PC Chess club, only one member shows up beyond the host. So, there seems many things to learn when it comes to advertisements for chess in the area.

Second, if you would like to type up a shorter explanation of the PC Chess club and e-mail it to me I will be more than happy to post it. Just keep it to the details of the club, don’t disparage other clubs and just be generally congenial. I reserve the right to edit for content, approved by you, but those are the only real conditions.

Also, your claim that there hasn’t been anything posted as of today for the PC Chess club before today is patently false. Do a search and you can find information on the Clubs page and on November 27th, 2008.

The it mentioned is a reference to workshops with a google search revealing tournaments was replaced by workshops in the year 2009. Wow! It must be the time machine theory. I don’t see where anything about workshops was posted in “2008”.

  5. Martin Stahl says:

You know what, you are right. It doesn’t mention workshops. Got that wrong, since I misread that I didn’t mention the club. Sorry about that. However, you didn’t change your advertisement until around early Spring of this year either, not in 2008, if I recall correctly.

Again, if you can’t keep your comments limited to the content at hand and continue to move into tirades your comments will continue to get modified and deleted. This isn’t the place to put down other players, their playing styles and strengths or training methods. You are free to start your own site if you feel the need to espouse those views. Here, keep it on topic or don’t comment.

Congrats on keeping the club going in Joplin Martin. I’m hoping to make it down for the August event.

Thanks but it helps to have dedicated players in the area too. I’m hoping we can grow the club and start having larger and larger tournaments.

Hopefully we’ll see you in August. Everyone is always welcome.
