Endgame Study January 23, 2009
This is a postion reached in one of my games at the Carthage Chess Open. While it is a won game for White, or at least I’m pretty sure it is, I think there are some very good foundational concepts that can be found by playing it out. You have to be careful as you can quickly lose the advantage if you make less than optimal moves. I had a couple places where that almost happened to me in the actual game.
White to play: FEN “8/7p/1k2p3/3p1p2/1K1P4/4P3/2P2PP1/8 w – – 1 47”
Well, unless I missed something, it should be a fairly straightforward win for white,
because he has more reserve pawn moves that he can use to force black into zugzwang and infiltrate black’s position with his king.
